Women and Epilepsy Webinar on October 26th at 6 PM

Women and girls living with epilepsy may face unique health concerns and special challenges related to their epilepsy. Join the BC Epilepsy Society and the I AM A VOICE for Epilepsy Awareness™ campaign on Monday October 26th from 6 PM to 7 PM PST for our Women and Epilepsy Webinar.

This webinar will focus on issues for adolescent girls and young women living with epilepsy, including information on what Anti-Epileptic Drugs to select and avoid in women of child-bearing age, information on hormones and the menstrual cycle in epilepsy and information on bone health, among other important facts.

About the Speaker:

  • Dr. Anita Datta, MD, FRCPC is a Pediatric Neurologist and Epileptologist and Clinical Associate Professor at BC Children’s Hospital. She is the Program Director of the Epilepsy Fellowship training program and medical student director for Neurology. She obtained her MD from the University of Saskatchewan, and completed her Pediatric Neurology residency at the University of Alberta. She then went on to an Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital – Harvard University. She is a board member of the Canadian Association of Child Neurology and the Canadian Board of Registered EEG technologists. Her primary clinical interest is epilepsy and its surgical management. She is also involved in the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic, Rett clinic and is part of the Ketogenic Diet team. Her research interests include clinical epilepsy and neuropsychological outcomes. She is also involved in several clinical trials for novel and precision therapies for epilepsy and has authored several peer reviewed publications and book chapters in these areas.
