A Canucks Game with the BC Epilepsy Society

Good News for Young Canucks Fans
For the past three years, the BC Epilepsy Society has had the opportunity to take kids to a private suite for one Canucks game per season. We hope we'll have the same chance in the 2009 - 2010 season, so we'd like to get the word out early, and encourage interested families to get in touch.

This opportunity is courtesy of the Lui's Crease Club Program, which is sponsored by Roberto Luongo and the Canucks for Kids Fund. The Lui's Crease Club Suite is a secure, private space, which includes great food, free Canucks merchandise, and the best seats in the house. So far, the BC Epilepsy Society has a 3 and 0 record for wins, so we're obviously good luck!

The seats are available for 12 children with epilepsy between the ages of 10 and 17, and the tickets will be awarded by draw. If you know of a child who would be interested in attending, please contact Kathryn Sykes at info@bcepilepsy.com or 604-875-6704 to get their name on the list.

Hospital Outreach

Providing Support
The BC Epilepsy Society continues to provide staff as a valuable part of the team at the Children's Hospital Neurology Clinic. Our staff members work alongside the doctors and nurses to provide resources and face-to-face support to children, youth, and their families.

Given that seizures can affect a person in so many ways, it is no surprise that families have questions that go beyond the medical aspects of their condition, into broader lifestyle and social concerns, and this is where our staff are happy to connect, and provide information and firsthand support.

Depending on the patient's age, situation, and interests, they may have a wide range of questions for our staff, but some of our most popular resources focus on school safety, employment supports, and transition into adult services. Even if they don't have questions at that time, many families are happy to meet our staff, hear about our Society, and know how to contact us with any future concerns. As any person with firsthand epilepsy experience would understand, families appreciate knowing that they are part of a community, and that they are not alone with the changes and challenges they face. Our staff will continue to provide services, support, and resources to address those needs, and put a face on the BC Epilepsy Society.
