Promoting Education for Individuals With Epilepsy
Congratulations to our Scholarship Winners!
The BC Epilepsy Society awarded nine scholarships worth $1000 each to individuals living with epilepsy throughout the province. Winners include: Darlene Avis from Nelson, William Cope from Qualicum Beach, Alysha Hassanali from Richmond, Riley Hauptman from Pentiction, Victor Wang from Vancouver, and four additional individuals from Surrey, West Vancouver, Burnaby, and Victoria. The winners range in age from 17 to 44 and are entering or continuing their education in a variety of fields. These include Business Technology, Medical Science, Esthetics, Tourism Management, Geography, Human Resource Management, and Liberal Arts. Each applicant submitted an essay about their experiences and how to raise awareness about epilepsy. You can read some of their thoughts on our blog at www.bcepilepsy.com
In other scholarship news, UCB Pharma has just announced that it will be awarding seven $5000 scholarships to individuals living with epilepsy in Canada.

Check out the BC Epilepsy website for many new resources. These include; Information Sheets on Stress Management, Bone Health, Genetics, Alcohol and Drugs, and Sibling Issues. New videos that have been added include; our lecture on Epilepsy and Genetics and Take Another Look: Police Response to Epilepsy and Seizures. Fun for Kids with Epilepsy and their Siblings
Pacific Northwest Camp Opportunity
The BC Epilepsy Society has partnered with Epilepsy Northwest to fund kids with epilepsy and their siblings to attend Camp Discovery near Tacoma, Washington. This free overnight camp is specifically for kids with epilepsy and their siblings. It runs from Sunday, August 24th to Wednesday the 27th. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 27th.
