Time to Talk About It

April 3, 2009 5:15 PMSend to a Friend

On the TV show "Heroes", Greg Grunberg plays a guy who can read minds. In real life, he thinks about brains too, but in a different way. He wants us to talk about them. Specifically, he wants us to talk about epilepsy.

Grunberg's son, Jake, is 12 years old, and he lives with epilepsy. In the past few years, he's been through seizures, medications, and even brain surgery, and the whole family has felt the effects. Most families living with seizures could relate when he explained to People Magazine, "In our house we say we all have epilepsy. We're all watching out for him. We're all going through this together."

Since the surgery, Jake has been doing great. His seizures have dropped from 100 a day to one every two or three weeks, and the family considers that a home run. Now that life is a bit easier on that front, Grunberg has taken up a new challenge. He wants to get the word out about epilepsy, and build a community to break down barriers and share support.

For years he's been a spokesperson and representative for the Epilepsy Foundation, but now he's taken it a step further and started his own site, TalkAboutIt.org, and he's called in some big name friends to help him out. Check out the website to hear notable actors such as, Jennifer Garner and John Mayer talk about epilepsy. You can even sign up for an email account to do what Grunberg really wants you to do, which is talk to others about epilepsy. We've all got a story to share, so why don't you talk about it?
