At our Annual General Meeting (AGM) each spring, our membership elects Board members to fill any vacancies at the time of the AGM. Elections are for a two-year term. If a vacancy occurs at a time other than at the AGM, a new Board member may be appointed by the current Board of Directors pro tem until the next AGM.

The Professional Advisory Committee, which Dr. Huh chairs, is a team of medical and social work experts that meets four times a year to discuss existing and potential resources, service, and programs that the Society delivers through its staff and volunteers. They recommend edits to our resources and upgrades to our programs and services. They also work with our staff to recommend new programs and services to our Board of Directors. Members of the Committee have also written most of our information sheets and newsletter articles, and made presentations at our annual lecture series.
In November 2004, our Board of Directors adopted the Society's first five-year strategic plan that outlined our vision through the end of 2009, our Society's 50th anniversary year. We finished that first five-year plan in only four years, and with your input on the direction for a new strategic plan, our Board of Directors and staff implemented the new plan in early 2009 - our Society's 50th anniversary year.
