Programs & Services

The BC Epilepsy Society offers a variety of programs and services, all grounded in our mission to support, educate, and empower British Columbians who are effected by epilepsy. Please contact our office to learn more.

Resource Centre

Our centre offers books, brochures, magazines, teaching resources, and DVDs. The centre includes a comprehensive collection of information sheets that the BC Epilepsy Society has developed in conjunction with medical and social work professionals, as well as community service providers.

Educational Events and Lecture Series

This includes our annual Speaking of Epilepsy lecture series, as well as the Parent Education Day About Epilepsy, a conference held in conjunction with the Division of Neurology at BC Children's Hospital.

Partners In Teaching: Seizure Awareness Workshops

This program provides free educational workshops, resource kits, and information materials to school staff, students, and other audiences including community groups, childcare providers, support workers, and employers.

Support Groups

We coordinate support groups to bring people with epilepsy together. Contact our office at info@bcepilepsy.com for meeting times and locations.

Research

The BC Epilepsy Society funds research for epilepsy in BC. This includes scientific research, statistical analysis, and market research on the knowledge of epilepsy and first aid amongst people in BC. Our medical research is funded in a dollar-for-dollar partnership with the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.

Hospital Outreach

Three staff members from our Society meet with families attending the Neurology Clinic at the BC Children's Hospital to provide epilepsy resources and assistance with community services. As well, we provide resources to the Vancouver General Hospital Epilepsy Clinic and other hospitals and health clinics across the province. Contact our office at info@bcepilepsy.com for more information.

Camp Opportunities

We provide financial subsidies for families to send their kids with epilepsy to accessible camps including Eureka Camp, the Zajac Ranch, and any of the three Easter Seals Camps in BC.

Women In Mind

Our Women In Mind resource kits contain information specifically for women and girls living with epilepsy. Issues such as hormone sensitive disorders, contraception, pregnancy, menstruation, menopause, bone health, and parenting are addressed.

Post-Secondary Scholarships

We provide post-secondary scholarships to British Columbians living with epilepsy. In 2011 we offered eight $1000 scholarships to a diverse group of applicants pursuing academic or employment training programs.
